Client Sentinel
What it does
Collects your rank-tracking measurements into one view per project: position, movement since the last measurement, and search volume per keyword. Reads stored measurements — it runs no new searches.
The measurements exist, but they sit scattered per project and per day
Daily Rank Tracker writes one row per keyword per day. After a few weeks you have thousands of rows and no practical way to see "what moved, and which way" without writing the query yourself. The question you actually ask — which keywords rose, which fell, and where do we stand on average — needs a comparison against the previous measurement that none of the table views does for you.
- The raw data is a time series; the question is a difference against the previous measurement
- A keyword that went 14 to 9 and one that went 9 to 14 look alike in a raw table
- A keyword measured for the first time has no previous value and must stay out of the counts
- Without a "last measured" marker, a silently stalled tracking job is indistinguishable from no movement
One read of the stored measurements, with the movement computed
Client Sentinel fetches the most recent rank-tracking rows for the project you select and shows the latest position per keyword alongside the change since the previous measurement. Keywords measured for the first time count as neither improved nor declined — they have no previous value to move from. If the last measurement is older than 14 days, the view says so plainly rather than presenting old numbers as current.
- Position, change, search volume and SERP features per keyword, per project
- Summary: keywords tracked, improved, declined, unchanged, average position, last measured
- First-time measurements stay out of the counts instead of being scored as "unchanged"
- A banner when measurements are older than 14 days, so a stalled tracking job is visible
Features
- Project picker: switch between the projects you track without rewriting the query
- Movement against the previous measurement, arrow following outcome — up means a better position, not a higher number
- Summary counts that exclude first-time measurements, so the totals add up
- A freshness warning when the last measurement is older than 14 days
How it works
- Set up keywords on a project in Daily Rank Tracker — that is what measures and stores
- The tracking job writes one row per keyword per measurement to the ranking history
- Client Sentinel reads that history and shows the latest position and the movement since the previous measurement
Use cases
- Agencies tracking rankings across several projects who need per-project status without digging through raw data
- Consultants who need to show a client what moved since last time, with measured numbers
- Anyone who wants to notice a tracking job has stalled, rather than reading old numbers as current
Why use Client Sentinel?
Rank tracking produces a time series. The question you ask is a difference. Client Sentinel is that middle layer — it reads the history and answers "what moved since last time", per project, without you writing the query yourself.
The tool is deliberately narrow. It does not measure, does not alert, and does not interpret. It shows stored measurements and the difference between them. That makes it something you can put in front of a client without caveats, because every number on the screen is something that was actually measured on a date.
It therefore follows rank tracking rather than being sold separately. Without a project under tracking the tool has nothing to show — and an overview of data you do not have is not worth paying for.
FAQ
- Do I need rank tracking to use this?
- Yes. Client Sentinel measures nothing itself — it reads the measurements Daily Rank Tracker has already stored. Without a project with keywords under tracking the view is empty, and it says so plainly rather than showing zeros. That is why both sit on Growth: the tool that produces the data and the tool that reads it belong together.
- Where do the numbers come from?
- From DataForSEO SERP data, fetched by the tracking job and stored as one row per keyword per measurement. Client Sentinel shows the stored rows and computes the difference against the previous measurement. Nothing is estimated, and no AI interprets the numbers before you see them.
- What does a positive change mean?
- That the position improved. A keyword that went from position 14 to 9 shows as +5 with an up arrow, even though 9 is the lower number. The arrow follows the outcome, not the sign of the position value — that is the only reading that is not misleading at a glance.
- Why are some keywords in neither "improved" nor "declined"?
- A keyword measured for the first time has no previous measurement to compare against, so it counts as neither improved, declined nor unchanged. Scoring it as "unchanged" would conflate "we know nothing happened" with "we do not know anything yet".
- Does it alert me when something drops?
- No. Client Sentinel is a view, not an alerting system — it sends no email, Slack message or push. You see the movement when you open it. The freshness banner is the closest thing to an alert, and it is about measurements having stopped, not about a ranking having fallen.
