Utm Builder
What it does
Generates URLs with UTM parameters for campaign tracking in Google Analytics. Saves templates for reuse.
You do not know which campaigns drive traffic and conversions — because your links lack tracking parameters
Without UTM parameters all traffic from social media, email and ads looks like "direct" or "referral" in Google Analytics — without ability to distinguish between campaigns, channels or content. You know something works, but not what. Is it the newsletter from Tuesday or the LinkedIn post from Wednesday driving sales? Without UTM tracking it is impossible to know, and you waste marketing budget on channels that may not work.
- Invisible traffic — without UTM parameters Google Analytics groups traffic from different campaigns together, so you cannot see which campaign drives results
- Inconsistent naming — when the team uses different UTM values for the same campaign (e.g. "summer_sale" vs "sommersalg" vs "Summer Sale 2024") the data becomes useless
- Manual error risk — writing UTM parameters manually in the URL leads to typos, missing parameters and broken links that give wrong data
- Missing standards — without a common convention for UTM values you end up with hundreds of unique campaign names that are impossible to analyze collectively
Build UTM links with consistent parameters in seconds — with templates, validation and preview in Google Analytics
UTM Builder generates complete UTM links with all five parameters — source, medium, campaign, term and content — with built-in validation and consistency control. The tool ensures all links follow the same naming convention, prevents typos and gives you a preview of how the data will look in Google Analytics. Save templates for recurring campaigns so the entire team uses the same format.
- All 5 UTM parameters: source (where traffic comes from), medium (channel), campaign (campaign name), term (keyword) and content (A/B test variant) — with explanation of each
- Consistency control: the tool suggests standardized values based on previous use — so you avoid the "facebook" vs "Facebook" vs "fb" problem
- Preview: see exactly how the UTM data will appear in Google Analytics before you publish the link — so you know the tracking is correct
- Template library: save templates for recurring campaigns — newsletters, social media, ads — so the entire team uses the same format
Features
- Visual UTM builder: fill in the fields and see the finished URL generated in real-time — with validation that prevents errors and missing parameters
- Naming convention: the tool automatically handles lowercase, hyphens and consistent formatting — so "Facebook" and "facebook" never become two different sources
- Bulk generation: create UTM links for an entire campaign at once — 10 links for 10 different posts with the same campaign name but different content parameter
- Export and sharing: export all UTM links as CSV or spreadsheet — perfect for sharing with the team or importing into scheduling tools
How it works
- Enter the URL you want to track and fill in the UTM parameters — source (e.g. "linkedin"), medium (e.g. "social"), campaign (e.g. "summer-campaign-2024")
- The tool generates the complete UTM link with validation and preview — you see exactly how it will appear in Google Analytics
- Copy the link and use it in the campaign — or save as template for future reuse
Use cases
- Marketing teams running campaigns across 5+ channels that need consistent UTM tracking to measure ROI per channel and campaign
- Email marketers sending weekly newsletters that need to track which links in the email drive the most traffic and conversions
- Social media managers publishing daily on multiple platforms that need to know which posts and platforms give the best results
Why use UTM Builder?
UTM tracking is the foundation for data-driven marketing. Without it you do not know which campaigns work, which channels give the best ROI or which posts drive conversions. UTM Builder makes it easy to implement consistent tracking on all links.
Consistency is the key to usable data. When one team member uses "facebook" and another uses "Facebook" and a third uses "fb", you get three different sources in Google Analytics for the same channel. The tool eliminates this problem with automatic standardization.
Templates save time and prevent errors. Instead of writing UTM parameters manually for each link — with risk of typos and missing parameters — you select a template and get a perfectly formatted link in seconds.
FAQ
- Which UTM parameters are mandatory?
- Technically none are mandatory, but we always recommend source, medium and campaign as minimum. Term and content are optional and used for keyword tracking and A/B testing.
- What is the difference between source and medium?
- Source is WHERE the traffic comes from (e.g. "linkedin", "google", "newsletter"). Medium is HOW it comes (e.g. "social", "cpc", "email"). Together they give a complete picture of the traffic source.
- Do UTM parameters affect SEO?
- No, UTM parameters do not directly affect SEO. Google ignores them during indexing. But use canonical tags to avoid duplicate content if UTM URLs get indexed.
- Can the entire team use the same templates?
- Yes, templates can be shared with the team so everyone uses the same naming convention and format. This ensures consistent data in Google Analytics regardless of who creates the links.
