What is AI Consultant Builder?

AI Consultant Builder lets you build your own AI expert that answers based on your data — not general AI training. You upload research data, reports and notes, give the consultant a name and area of expertise, and chat with a persistent persona that references your sources in its answers.

Cost: 10 credits per message you send. No cost to create the consultant or add sources.

How to use

Step 1: Create the consultant

1. Go to AI Consultant Builder in the tools menu
2. Fill in:
   • Consultant name — e.g. "The SEO Expert" or "Market Analyst"
   • Area of expertise — e.g. "Norwegian e-commerce SEO and AEO strategy"
3. Choose communication style:
   • Professional — Structured and domain-specific, uses terminology when natural
   • Friendly — Approachable and explanatory, simplifies complex concepts
   • Academic — Thorough and nuanced, systematically references sources
   • Casual — To the point, short and practical
4. Click Create consultant

Step 2: Upload knowledge base

The consultant needs data to base its answers on. You can add sources in two ways:

Paste text:

1. Click Add text in the sources panel
2. Give the source a descriptive name (e.g. "Industry Analysis Q1 2026")
3. Paste the text
4. Click Add

Upload file:

1. Click Upload file in the sources panel
2. Select a .txt or .md file
3. The file is added automatically with the filename as source name

Limitations:

• Maximum 80,000 characters total across all sources
• Maximum 20 sources per consultant
• Supported formats: .txt, .md
• The context meter shows how much capacity you have used

Step 3: Ask questions

1. Type your question in the chat input
2. Press Enter or click Send (costs 10 credits)
3. The consultant responds based on the knowledge base
4. Answers include references to sources using [Source X] format

Tips for best results

Knowledge base

• Be specific with source names — "Competitor Analysis Nordea vs DNB Q1" is better than "Analysis"
• Split large documents — Multiple small, focused sources give better answers than one enormous document
• Remove irrelevant text — Headers/footers, disclaimers and noise reduce quality

Questions

• Ask precise questions — "What do the sources say about DNB's content strategy?" is better than "Tell me about DNB"
• Build on the conversation — The consultant remembers previous questions, so you can go deeper
• Ask for references — "Which sources support this?" forces the consultant to be precise

Use cases

Privacy and data security

• No permanent storage — The consultant and knowledge base are stored in your browser (sessionStorage) and disappear when you close the tab
• No server data — Only the AI queries themselves are sent to the server to generate answers
• Personal session — The consultant is tied to your browser session and cannot be shared with other users

FAQ

Can I change the communication style during a conversation? No, you need to create a new consultant. The knowledge base needs to be added again.

What happens if I close the tab? The consultant and all data disappear. Copy important answers before closing.

Can I export the conversation? Not directly, but you can select and copy text from the chat window.

Why does the consultant say "I cannot find information about this in the sources"? Your question is about something not covered in the knowledge base. Add more relevant sources or ask a more specific question.

What is the difference between this and ChatGPT? ChatGPT starts every conversation from zero. AI Consultant Builder has permanent access to your data and responds as a specialist within the defined area of expertise — with references to your sources.
