Research Brief Generator — User Guide
What is Research Brief Generator?
Research Brief Generator designs a complete research architecture for you — with phases, research questions, recommended tools and success criteria. You get a structured plan ensuring you investigate the right things, in the right order, with the right tools.
Cost: 10 credits per generation.
Why use this tool?
The most expensive mistake in analysis is investigating the wrong things. Without a plan you risk:
- Spending hours and hundreds of credits on data that does not answer the most important questions
- Missing important perspectives because you did not plan systematically
- Doing the same work twice because you do not know what has already been covered
- Using expensive analysis tools at the wrong time in the process
Research Brief Generator solves this by forcing you to think through the research architecture before you spend a single credit on the actual analysis.
How to use
Step 1: Fill in input
- Go to Research Brief Generator in the tools menu
- Fill in the following fields:
| Field | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Topic | The main topic you want to investigate | "SEO strategy for Norwegian e-commerce" |
| Domain (optional) | The website the analysis concerns | "mystore.no" |
| Industry | The industry you operate in | "E-commerce / online retail" |
| Goal | What you want to achieve with the research | "Identify why organic traffic has dropped 30% last quarter" |
- Click Generate research brief
Step 2: Read and evaluate the brief
The brief typically contains:
- Phases (3-5) — Logical sequence for the investigation
- Each phase has a clear goal and deliverable
- Phases build on each other
- Research questions — Precise questions you should investigate per phase
- Recommended tools — Which NordicPulse tools are best suited
- Risk assessment — What can go wrong and what to watch for
- Success criteria — What defines a successful result
Step 3: Use the brief
You can:
- Follow the plan step by step — Use the phases as a roadmap for the analysis work
- Copy to clipboard — Share with the team or paste into project tools
- Download as Markdown — Save as a file for further use
Example: Complete brief
Input:
- Topic: "Why has organic traffic dropped?"
- Domain: fjordstore.no
- Industry: E-commerce
- Goal: "Find the cause of 30% traffic decline and create a recovery plan"
Typical output:
Phase 1: Technical audit
- Goal: Identify technical issues that may cause traffic decline
- Questions: Are there crawl errors? Has indexing status changed? Have Core Web Vitals worsened?
- Tools: Site X-Ray, Technical SEO Analyzer
- Deliverable: List of technical errors sorted by severity
Phase 2: Competitor analysis
- Goal: Understand if the traffic loss is caused by own decline or competitor growth
- Questions: Have competitors strengthened? Have they published new content in your key areas?
- Tools: Nemesis Protocol, Competitive Overview Report
- Deliverable: Competitor benchmark with traffic and visibility trends
Phase 3: Content analysis
- Goal: Evaluate if existing content is still relevant and competitive
- Questions: Which pages lost the most traffic? Is content outdated? Are there topic gaps?
- Tools: Content Authority Engine, Topical Map
- Deliverable: Prioritized list of content to update, remove or create
Tips for a better brief
- Be specific with goals — "Find out why traffic dropped" is much better than "Analyze SEO"
- Specify industry precisely — "B2B SaaS for accounting" gives a better plan than just "IT"
- Include domain — With a domain, the AI can suggest more relevant tools
- Use the brief as a checklist — Check off phases as you complete them
